In Destiny 2, there were many metas to melt bosses, but one stood out in particular: the Anarchy with double slug shotguns. Bungie destroyed this meta a long time ago, but now, thanks to new buffs, the weapon could shine again.
What kind of meta was that? With the DLC of the “Black Armory“, players received many new weapons, including the exotic grenade launcher “Anarchy”. This could only be acquired with some luck by completing the raid “Spoils of the Past”.
The weapon was considered a true DPS king, as players would attach Arc mines to bosses to deal even more damage during a damage phase with double shotguns. This made many bosses like Taniks or Gahlran melt and thus conquered the meta of Destiny 2.
To the dismay of all, the weapon was nerfed by Bungie so severely that it would no longer be worth using in boss fights. Many players then put their grenade launcher in the vault and used other meta weapons. Now, long time later, the moment has come again. Anarchy could return with upcoming buffs and fight its way through the meta, but are the buffs strong enough?
Buffs bring Anarchy back to its former strength
What will be adjusted? Bungie announced many weapon adjustments in their TWaB that are set to launch with update 7.3.5. Among them, an adjustment affecting grenade launchers with a drum magazine was mentioned. Depending on which grenade launcher you use, your reserve ammunition will be increased. Either by 6 or 10 rounds.
On Reddit, players speculate that the RPM, or Rounds Per Minute, will determine which weapon receives the 6+ ammunition and which will get the 10+ rounds. Players believe that 120 RPMs will receive fewer rounds and the 150 RPMs, and thus Anarchy, will receive the full 10 additional rounds.
If you take that and the previous damage buffs that players have listed from past seasons into account, Anarchy will reach the same level as it did during the “Black Armory”.
Will Anarchy become meta again? That is very unlikely. Anarchy, when the update for the magazines is rolled out, will reach the same level as it did before its nerf, but due to power creep, there are much better options to deal damage to bosses.
It is quite possible that many nostalgic players will dust off their double shotguns to execute their swap strategy together with Anarchy, but in the long run, this will not really hold up against the current meta. Nevertheless, Anarchy can unleash its strength in dungeons or Nightfalls with such an update and should be able to keep up with strong contenders of the current meta.
What do you think about Anarchy becoming as strong as it once was soon? Will you pull your weapon out of the vault again or do you not care about that? Let us know in the comments!
