In the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, the expansion Dawntrail has gone live, and there are some side effects that no one expected. For example, a raid for level 50 players from 2014 is suddenly no longer achievable.
What kind of raid is this?
- Patch 2.3 in July 2014 introduced the “Syrcus Tower” to the MMORPG.
- It is a raid for level 50 players, featuring 5 boss fights and two encounters.
- Normally, people run through it in 15 minutes today because they are too strong to pay attention to the mechanics of the boss fights. However, that is currently different.
No protection from a boss’s death attack anymore
What is the problem now? The penultimate boss in the dungeon is named Amon. He has a move called “Curtain Call” that leads to an instant KO if you do not protect yourself correctly in front of him.
This instant death can normally be avoided by hiding behind three ice blocks that form on random players before he uses his deadly ability. Normally, Amon turns 3 players into ice blocks, and they serve as a shield.
However, with Dawntrail, a bug seems to have appeared, allowing players to freeze, but the protective function no longer exists. Thus, the 24 players in the raid have no choice but to take the damage completely and die.
Is there a solution? As PCGamer reports, savvy MMORPG players have found two ways to circumvent the immortal boss:
- A healer lets themselves be killed just before the ability, gets revived, but only accepts the resurrection after the death ability has passed – however, this is quite exhausting to execute the plan.
- Another option is likely to buff and use food to strengthen oneself enough to simply overwhelm Amon with raw force before he can even use his deadly spell.
For MMORPG fans, the Dawntrail expansion is surely a feast, and we will closely follow the launch of the expansion on MeinMMO: FF14 receives a major innovation with Dawntrail, but many players feel it is not enough yet.
