The professional guild Exorsus is withdrawing from professional raiding in World of Warcraft. After many years, the hunt for World First is over.
Over the 16 years of World of Warcraft, many large guilds have formed and dissolved. The big names in the race for the “World First” kills can always be seen again. Method, Limit, Echo – or Exorsus. This guild has now announced that they will no longer participate in professional raiding. There are several reasons for this.
Who is Exorsus? Exorsus (Экзорсус) is known by most WoW fans as the “one big Russian guild” that has frequently been involved in the race for World First kills. Although this guild has rarely attained first place, like in the mythic Emerald Nightmare in Legion, they have always performed in the top ranks.
They were not only known for their more than solid performance but also for their atmospheric videos that showcased their achievements. Like in this example, when they secured second place in the mythic raid “Antorus, the Burning Throne”:
What did Exorsus say now? In a statement on Twitter, guild and raid leader Alveona stated that there would be some important changes:
- The guild is increasing to 2 raid nights per week. They will transition from a hardcore guild to a more “normal” guild with a slower progression.
- Some players wishing to continue playing hardcore will switch guilds and join other groups.
Specifically, it says:
[In recent years] many of us have found other goals and hobbies. And World of Warcraft has, unfortunately, shown no signs of evolving. It has become more challenging to commit to a game that offers nothing attractive apart from raiding. Therefore, this solution is optimal for us – we can continue to enjoy the raids with our players.
What will happen to the guild now? Even though Exorsus is no longer chasing the “World First” with full enthusiasm, the guild wants to continue raiding two nights a week and enjoy the new raid content. Everything will just proceed a bit less hardcore than in the past.
The progress will continue to be streamed, and the guild will fundamentally remain intact to play World of Warcraft in a more relaxed manner in the future.
What do you think about this? A logical step as players get older and pursue new goals? Or another sign of the “decline” of World of Warcraft?
