Originally, Chrono Odyssey was supposed to be released in 2025. However, the challenging beta caused the developers to reconsider. It is now clear that the ambitious MMORPG will also not be released this year for PC and consoles.
When will Chrono Odyssey be released? Thanks to the new quarterly report from publisher Kakao Games, it is clear that the launch of Chrono Odyssey will be postponed from the 4th quarter of 2026 to the first quarter of 2027. Officially, they want to take the time to implement all the feedback from the challenging beta in summer 2025.
Unofficially, this could also mean moving out of the way for GTA 6, which is known to be released on November 19, 2026. It is unclear when western genre fans will next have the opportunity to test the new version of Chrono Odyssey. However, since the last beta, several focus group tests have reportedly taken place in the home market.
Bad for the MMORPG year 2025, right for Chrono Odyssey
How does MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz assess the delay? Of course, the further delay of Chrono Odyssey weakens the current MMORPG year 2026, which already had to mourn the sudden death of Ashes of Creation.
Nevertheless, I think it’s good that the people responsible at Kakao Games and Chrono Studio are taking a lot of time to address the really comprehensive issues from the 2025 beta.
That the developers have been practically turning every stone in the game for months is shown by the extensive updates from the team, which cover hit feedback, animations, control feel, enemy behavior, graphical improvements, and countless other details.
With the complex production of a massive MMORPG, it simply takes an incredible amount of time to give a game that is almost finished (in terms of content) the necessary polish.
It is great to see that Kakao Games is giving the people at Chrono Studio this time. Too many MMORPG launches from the past have been disastrous because they lacked time. Here’s an example: In a genre known for disastrous launches, this MMORPG really took the cake.
What do I need to know about Chrono Odyssey? Chrono Odyssey is set to be released for PC (Steam and Epic Games), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. The new MMORPG from Chrono Studio offers you a mix of theme park and sandbox, with a strong focus on PvE content for solo players and small groups of 3, 5, or 10 players (PvP exists but is said to be optional).
Although Chrono Odyssey is developed by a South Korean studio, the game differs significantly from many other representatives from this region:
- The diverse character creation comes without gender lock. You can freely choose your gender, regardless of which class you want to play.
- The game avoids daily tasks and pure mob grinding. Players’ time should be valued.
- The focus is clearly on PvE, while PvP is intended to be only an optional side feature.
- The world’s setting is unusually dark, blending fantasy with sci-fi and cosmic horror.
- There are no random components in the crafting or upgrading of equipment and weapons that could feel punishing.
The focus of the MMORPG is on exploring the open world, the action-packed combat system, and a wide variety of content that you can master solo or with small groups. You can also team up with large guilds and tackle raids for up to 10 players.
