The new co-op shooter Remnant 2 offers tons of cool guns. MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus discovered a crossbow early on, with which he played through the entire game. The weapon was just too good with too many advantages.
What kind of weapon is it? The Crossbow of Sorrow is a handgun and uses primary ammunition. Strictly speaking, it’s a “boss weapon,” although you don’t need to craft it directly with boss loot at McCabe.
You shoot bolts with the crossbow. The magazine only holds 5 shots, but with its special property, you can fire up to 15 shots in a row without needing to reload.
The damage is +7 at an upgrade with a DPS value of 450 (body) or over 800 (vulnerable spots). This makes the weapon by far the strongest weapon I have tested so far.
The only other weapon that is similarly strong and that you can definitely get earlier, you can obtain through the secret box of founder Ford.
What the Crossbow of Sorrow can do: The special mod of the weapon is called “Lamentation.” The effect consists of several parts:
- You call back fired bolts, which can recharge your magazine and even the reserves (up to 10 shots in the magazine)
- returned bolts deal damage to the target and all targets on the way back
- for each returned bolt, you heal for 2% of your maximum health
Therefore, the weapon not only deals enormous damage, but also heals you, and with the right items, the mod can be recharged almost immediately after use. This makes the Crossbow of Sorrow ideal against any boss.
The perfect transformation for the weapon is “Silence of the Dead,” which increases damage while aiming continuously. The only downside: the bolts are projectiles that are relatively slow. Against very agile targets, you might have some bigger problems.
Here’s a little gameplay of the weapon – with a hidden secret room in Yaesha:
How to get the Crossbow of Sorrow in Remnant 2
Where can I find the crossbow? You can get the Crossbow of Sorrow basically after one of the first story bosses. In Yaesha, the world of the Pan, you will encounter the boss “Kaeula’s Shadow.”
Tip: The shadow is weak against fire damage, and you should look where red flowers grow on the water. These indicate where you can move without having to wade through the water.
If you defeat the shadow, you will receive the ring “Tear of Kaeula” as a reward, which increases your relic charge by 2. You then need to exchange this at Meidre at the Stained Clearing in the Far Forest.
When speaking with Meidre, it doesn’t matter what you choose in the test. You just need to have the ring. Meidre will then ask you where you got the ring from. If you offer the nymph to give her the jewel, she will give you the crossbow in return. Unfortunately, this does not apply to co-players in your game.
If you are already at Meidre, you should take the opportunity to unlock the Bloodmoon Shrine and use Bloodmoon Essences. You even get a secret reward.
What do I need to consider? In Remnant 2, randomness determines which world you can visit first. For me, it was Yaesha, which is why I found the Crossbow of Sorrow right at the beginning and could upgrade quickly.
If you want the crossbow, it is recommended to choose Yaesha directly as the second world. You can unlock all worlds after your visit to the labyrinth.
