Son Goku has fought against almost all the main villains that have appeared in the series of Dragon Ball throughout the entire series. However, he not only did not fight against one of the most important villains, but he also met him only over 20 years after the end of Dragon Ball Z.
Who is it about? After Son Goku and his friends defeated Frieza on Planet Namek, a new danger threatens them on Earth: The androids of Dr. Gero. C16, C17, and C18 have only one task, which is to kill Goku.
Interestingly, Son Goku never spoke with C17 in Dragon Ball Z. After the battle against C19, Goku’s heart disease manifested, but Future Trunks was able to heal the illness. However, Goku was bedridden for 10 days. In the meantime, Cell appeared and searched for the androids.
C17 had a lot to do during that time. In the battle against Piccolo, he presented himself in one of the best fights of the series, but later he was absorbed by Cell. The same happened with C18. Goku met C16 as the first of the androids at the Cell Games. He encountered C18 when Cell spit her out, and later as Krillin’s wife.
However, C17 and Goku never met, which makes a statement from C17 later sound illogical.
Where does C17 know his voice from?
What happened after the Cell Arc? After the Cell Arc, all the dead were revived, including C17. He was not seen for a long time until the final battle between Buu and Goku, in which Goku gathers energy for the Spirit Bomb and speaks to all the people on Earth through Master Kaio.
In a brief scene (via YouTube), C17 can also be seen offering his energy. He also expresses himself here and says that it has been a long time since he heard that voice. The problem is, he could never have heard that voice. Only in Dragon Ball Super, almost 20 years later, do the two meet for the first time.
In the manga for Dragon Ball Super, this small plothole
is addressed. In chapter 31, C17 and Goku meet for the first time. Goku asks C17 where he knows him from. C17 explains: He could see and hear Goku in Cell’s body. That was after C17’s appearance in the Dragon Ball Super anime.
In Dragon Ball GT, which is not considered canon, the two are portrayed as much more aggressive towards each other. There, a clone of C17 creates the evil Super 17.
