The tactical RPG Tactics Ogre: Reborn will be released on November 11, 2022, on Steam and other platforms. The RPG classic offers an exciting story full of intrigue and a deep combat system, with many customization options for your units.
What is Tactics Ogre? The classic is a tactical RPG by Square Enix, played from an isometric 2.5D perspective. It was originally released in 1995 on the Super Nintendo and has since been ported and re-released on other consoles multiple times.
On November 11, the remake Tactics Ogre: Reborn will be released on Steam, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. The game is considered one of the best in the “Tactics” genre and is praised by critics for its deep gameplay and top-notch story full of intrigue.
What is Tactics Ogre about? In the game, you will be transported to the islands of Valeria, which have been shaken by conflicts for many years. The warring factions of the Bakramer, the Galgastaner, and the oppressed minority of the Walister fight for control over the region.
The story revolves around the two siblings Denam and Catiua, who belong to the Walisters. After their hometown was leveled and their family killed, they joined a rebellion against their oppressors.
Throughout the game, you will make many decisions that affect the story. You will decide whether characters become your allies or enemies, whether they live or die.
Thanks to the “Wheel of Time” system, you can rewind events to special key moments and experience different strands of the story. You retain your levels, equipment, etc.
Tactical gameplay that offers extreme depth
What is the gameplay like in Tactics Ogre? The classic belongs to the genre of turn-based tactical RPGs. You move from one location to the next on the world map, where the story continues, random battles take place, or side quests can be gathered to unlock new optional areas.

The heart of the game is the tactical battles, where you control a group of up to 12 characters on a field. The individual units can take on over 20 different classes with their own strengths and weaknesses.
The macromanagement of units is profound, and one can easily spend hours equipping their group, teaching them abilities and spells, and deciding which of them they will use in battle. Each unit has up to 4 slots to equip their skills, items, and magic.

The decisions you make before a battle have a significant impact on how the fight plays out and whether victory awaits at the end. With the special scout ability, you can find out what terrain awaits you and how the enemy team is composed before the confrontation.
But your actions on the battlefield also need to be well thought out. You can take down your opponents in a pincer attack, but they can do the same. The enemy AI has received a new polish in this remake and will ruthlessly exploit your mistakes.

“It’s so good”
How Tactics Ogre was received: The game gained immense popularity soon after its original release in Japan and laid the foundation for more games in the genre such as Final Fantasy Tactics.
The game is considered one of the great RPG classics from Japan. The director of Final Fantasy XIV, Naoki Yoshida, even stated that Tactics Ogre was groundbreaking for him. It has had a profound influence on his career as a successful game developer.
When I looked at Tactics Ogre, it just destroyed my confidence. I thought to myself: ‘Wow, how could anyone create something so brilliant?’ […] But at the same time, I thought: ‘I have to [as a game developer] reach this level. I have to keep up and push my own limits.’ That was the goal I set for myself.
