New DLC “The Mountain Royals” brings fresh content to the game
What content does the DLC offer? The new DLC “The Mountain Royals” adds two new civilizations to the game:
- The Armenians with their special units, composite archer, and warrior priest.
- And the Georgians with their unique unit “Monaspa”, a cavalry unit that becomes stronger the more soldiers it has.
In addition to the two new civilizations, there are also 3 campaigns for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition:
- In “Tamar’s Rise,” we play as the young Tamar, Georgia’s first queen, who follows in her grandfather’s footsteps.
- In the campaign “Thoros the Great,” we play as Prince Thoros, who tries to reconquer the Kingdom of Lesser Armenia.
- The campaign “Ismail” takes place in war-torn Persia. We play as Ismail, a child prodigy, and lead the mysterious Safavid Order.
How is the DLC received? “The Mountain Royals” received mixed reactions from fans. While all the features of the DLC please the fans, they find the DLC too expensive at a price of 15 € for what it offers. Especially the lack of innovations in architecture and buildings leaves the DLC wanting. Fans expected more from the DLC prior to its release than was ultimately delivered.
