Ubisoft’s tactical shooter Rainbow Six: Siege has been regarded for several years as one of the best and most innovative shooters on the market. For almost 7 years, however, a feature that the community longed for was missing. With the upcoming update – Operation Vector Glare – the players’ wish is finally fulfilled
What feature is it? For years, “Rainbow Six: Siege” players have demanded a place or a mode where they can test game mechanics. Until now, the players’ wish has not been fulfilled: instead, players had to, for example, play a training ground mission (formerly Terrorist Hunt) for a simple weapon test or create a custom match.
With Operation Vector Glare, Ubisoft is now adding a shooting range to the shooter, where you can test weapons and weapon attachments like sights and grips in various ways.

Like in Valorant: Shooting range lets you set distances
How is the shooting range set up? The shooting range will feature a target and a dummy that serves as your target. There will be different tracks for the dummy and the target, allowing you to move flexibly back and forth between them.
The dummy symbolizes an enemy and has a health bar. This allows you to track whether the enemy would have died or survived from your shots.
The respective target can be placed at four different distances. The maximum range is 30 meters, the minimum range is 5 meters. Additionally, 10 meters and 20 meters can be selected as target distances. As Ubisoft announced some time ago, the average distance in engagements in Rainbow Six: Siege is 9 meters.
To set the distance to the target, you do so similarly to Valorant by taking a shot. Right next to the area where the target is located, a board hangs. This board displays the respective distances with a box next to them. If you shoot into one of these boxes, the chosen distance will be set.
On the board for setting distances, there is also an illustration of the target that accurately shows where your bullets have hit. Here you can also choose whether you want to shoot at a typical round target or if it should have the outline of an enemy.
What will be possible on the shooting range? As Ubisoft announced in the official presentation of the upcoming season, you will be able to test all available operators on the shooting range. It does not matter whether you own the selected operator or not.
With the individual operators, it will be possible to fire every available weapon on the shooting range. However, it is expected to be different with gadgets like grenades or abilities such as the fire arrow from the operator Capitão.
Additionally, sights, grips, and barrel attachments can be tested. However, it is currently unclear if swapping a weapon attachment will be seamless on the shooting range or if you will need to switch to the operator menu for that. The presentation of the shooting range in the season reveal suggests a smooth transition.
Who is the shooting range designed for? Ubisoft itself mentions in the presentation of the upcoming season that new and returning players are the target audience for the shooting range.
In general, the shooting range is interesting for any player who wants to test or practice weapon recoil or different attachments. Especially following a patch, the shooting range could be relevant for any player of Rainbow Six: Siege to better understand a recoil change or similar adjustments.
When does Season 2, Operation Vector Glare start?
When will the shooting range be added? The shooting range will debut alongside all other new content with the start of the upcoming season Operation Vector Glare and will initially be playable on the test server.
The test servers for Rainbow Six: Siege will start on May 24, 2022, with the new season’s content. The testing phase is expected to last three weeks. This was already the case for the first season of the year, Operation Demon Veil.
If the rhythm of a three-week testing phase remains in place and shortly after the end of the testing phase the official season release occurs in the full game, Operation Vector Glare will be released in the week of Monday, June 13, 2022. Particularly realistic seems a release on the typical update Tuesday, June 14, 2022.
