The Twitch streamer TenZ is considered one of the best shooter players in the world, but he apparently doesn’t feel like playing Counter-Strike 2.
Who is it about? Tyson “TenZ” Ngo was a professional in CS:GO and Valorant for four years, playing during that time for Cloud 9 and the Sentinels. With the Sentinels, TenZ won the Valorant Masters twice – in 2024 in Madrid and in 2021 in Reykjavik. He was even named the most valuable player (MVP) on the final day in Reykjavik.
In September 2024, TenZ ended his career as a professional esports player to work for the Sentinels as a content creator. On Twitch, he has over 4.2 million followers and regularly streams to around 8,000 viewers (via sullygnome). His videos on YouTube regularly reach over 150,000 views.
TenZ is primarily known for his incredibly good aim and a strong reaction time. There’s even a clip on YouTube with 1.8 million views, where he plays Aimlabs, which is an aim trainer where only balls are shot. He is so good at it that even such relatively unremarkable gameplay fascinates shooter fans.
On Twitch, TenZ recently talked about CS2 and why he doesn’t enjoy playing the popular shooter very much. A clip of his statements was shared on Reddit.
TenZ criticizes too much “run and gun” in CS2
What does he say about CS2? TenZ explained in a livestream that he would probably be playing CS:GO right now if it still existed. He isn’t a big fan of CS2, as many gunfights feel to him like “run and gun”.
TenZ elaborates that he loved the spray control of CS:GO – the ability to fire shots while controlling the spray pattern (for example: the “pattern” in which shots hit). It felt very good for him to invest time in mastering the spray control and movement.
In CS2, however, the weapon spray feels random to him and he often gets shot by moving players. He also criticizes that worse players can eliminate him more often in CS2.
What is the current state of CS2? CS2 has two sides: on one hand, it is extremely successful and on the other hand, it cannot shake off the ongoing criticism from many active players. Nevertheless, the shooter recently reached, on February 17, 2025, the highest number of concurrent players since May 2023 – back then it was still CS:GO (via SteamDB).
The biggest criticism remains the ongoing cheating problem, which Valve has not been able to manage effectively – and thus suffers the same fate as many other shooters, such as Call of Duty or Rainbow Six: Siege.
Despite the problems, Counter-Strike naturally has many fans, otherwise it wouldn’t attract millions of players to the servers every day.
