Dragon Age: Origins is an absolute classic and is regarded as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Additionally, it is one of the favorite games of MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus. Right now, you can get it for less than €5 on GOG.
What kind of game is this? With Dragon Age: Origins, the studio BioWare established the famous fantasy series back in the day. The RPG was released in November 2009. You play a legendary “Grey Warden” who is supposed to protect the world of Thedas from a great evil.
The Dragon Age games are classic role-playing games where you choose a class, level up, learn abilities, and improve your equipment. However, battles take place in real-time, not turn-based.
In addition, you have companions available to interact with and even engage in romances. What makes Dragon Age so special are the stories surrounding the individual characters and the world. There are details everywhere that provide unexpected twists and more depth.
The great uniqueness of the Dragon Age universe is the famous “tapestry”: All your decisions are recorded when you play with your profile. Every decision has an impact, not only on the current game but even on future games.
Dragon Age has a rating of 91 on Metacritic, while the Ultimate Edition on Steam has a score of 89% since release. According to How Long To Beat, you can invest 106 hours until you discover everything.
This is the deal: On GOG, Dragon Age: Origins – Ultimate Edition is currently 75% off and available for only €4.69. On Steam, you would normally pay €25 for it. The Ultimate Edition includes, in addition to the base game:
- the expansion “Awakening”
- all 9 DLCs that have been released since launch

By the way, Dragon Age is also available on Netflix and if you have 3 hours to spare, you should definitely check out Absolution. Here’s the trailer for the series:
Dragon Age 4: The latest installment is already in the works
Dragon Age: Origins is the first part of the series. After that, two successors, Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition, followed, and Dragon Age 4 has been in development for some time now. However, when it will be released is still uncertain.
According to earlier rumors, Dragon Age 4 was supposed to contain live elements, but due to the flop of Anthem, a lot appears to have changed. There is still not much information about the latest installment, except that a familiar character from Inquisition is likely to return.
I personally can recommend Origins to everyone. In my opinion, it is by far the best part of the series, where I have even spent well over 100 hours just to see as many stories and different endings as possible.
This is currently a point of contention between the former writers of Dragon Age and the video game industry. One reason why Dragon Age: Origins is worth it for every story fan:
