Without much fanfare, Bungie has now hired one of the best PvP players as a consultant for Destiny 2. Apparently, this person is supposed to help bring the Crucible up to speed.
What is the current state of PvP? The Crucible – that is, the PvP of Destiny 2 – hasn’t received enough love in the eyes of many fans for some time. Many believe that the mode is currently neglected like never before.
Discussions on this topic flared up again recently when rumors suggested that Destiny 3 might not have traditional PvP in the Crucible format anymore.
In response, Bungie even personally spoke out and explained, the Crucible is going nowhere. Intensive work is being done now and in the future. The Crucible team is therefore not just, as many fans humorously claim, a pure myth.
Even during the ongoing Spring Event “The Revelry”, the PvP does not leave a good impression on fans. Because Bungie has broken the PvP and can only fix it in May.
This is how Bungie reaffirms its stance on PvP: This commitment to the Crucible gains more weight through a new personnel decision. Because the studio has now quietly hired one of the best PvP players as a consultant.
Who is it about? The new consultant from the community is the well-known PvP crack “Change” from the BSK clan (BombSquadKittens). He recently announced this himself on Discord.
Change is considered one of the best Crucible players in the world by the community. He definitely knows his stuff. Additionally, he often openly addresses various issues of the PvP mode in his streams and discusses possible solutions. Many fans love him for that.
What exactly will Change do at Bungie? Change has not disclosed any specific details. However, for at least 6 months starting next week, he is supposed to act as a consultant there and support the Crucible team in their work.
His activities there are subject to a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), so he will not be seen on Twitch during this period – except occasionally in a chat.
What does the community say? Fans have received this news mostly with joy. Change is a competent expert and an excellent player, according to some users. Through him, the community should be well represented in terms of the Crucible.
Others, however, warn that such top players do not necessarily share or represent the opinion and interests of the average Destiny player. Furthermore, it is not really appropriate to burst into euphoria, as he is essentially only fulfilling an advisory role.
So it remains uncertain to what extent his feedback will actually be incorporated into the development process.
This is not the first time Bungie has involved the community: Previously, the studio had hired experts from the community who then supported Bungie in an advisory capacity for a limited period. This includes, among others, Destiny expert and YouTuber Holtzmann or the well-known theorycrafter Mercules.
Additionally, Bungie has already hosted several community summits where the smartest minds of the Destiny community were able to play new features and provide feedback on them – such as before the release of Forsaken.
