With the anime adaptation of Castlevania, Netflix has celebrated major success. Now the anime is getting its own spin-off called Castlevania: Nocturne, which will take place at a different time. This time, the protagonist is also different.
What is Castlevania: Nocturne about? The story jumps to France in the year 1792, many years after the first seasons of Castlevania. At this time, the French Revolution is taking place.
This time we see the events not from the perspective of Trevor Belmont, but from that of his descendant, Richter Belmont. The family specializes in hunting vampires, and in light of the looming threat of a vampire army, the sorceress Annette seeks out the vampire hunter Richter to stop the vampires.
You can watch the related Netflix trailer here. However, you should only watch it if you can handle brutal scenes:
The magician Maria Renard also joins the group, who fights both the French nobility and elite vampires. Annette, on the other hand, comes from the Caribbean and was previously enslaved by vampires.
As the anime progresses, more and more allies join the group. It becomes particularly interesting when the vampire Olrox joins the group. He is responsible for the death of Richter’s mother, but must temporarily work with his arch-nemesis.
Netflix trailer appears extremely brutal
The related trailer already shows how brutal the series will be. There’s a massive splash of blood and heads flying off bodies in droves. So only watch the trailer if you can handle such brutal scenes.
Additionally, the trailer hints at how Richter’s mother is killed. The vampire responsible for the death promises Richter that he will also kill him one day.
When is the anime coming out? Castlevania: Nocturne is set to premiere on September 28, 2023, exclusively on Netflix. The season will consist of eight episodes that will run for around 25 minutes each, as is typical for animes.
The previous seasons of Castlevania were extremely well received by audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series achieved a score of 90 out of 100%. If the spin-off is as successful as the main series, we can look forward to a fantastic series.
