Terraria is one of the top games on Steam and tests players with devious traps. Even the creator of the adventure game falls victim to his own creations from time to time.
The open-world game Terraria is regarded as one of the absolute top games on Steam. It now has 863,721 player ratings on the platform, with a whole 97% being positive. This places Terraria at currently number 6 on the best-rated games in the Steam ranking (as of February 6, 2023, via steamdb).
Terraria can sometimes be quite treacherous, leaving some gamers frustrated with its traps. Many little nuisances spawn in the game world that can abruptly end your exploration tour. From arrow traps to lava traps, everything is included.
Especially when playing in hardcore mode with permadeath, the threat can cause quite a bit of stress for players and can abruptly end one or another exploration.
However, it is not only the players who feel this way, but also the father of Terraria himself.

The Terraria Creator and His Traps
A big fan and the one responsible for the traps is the creator of Terraria and head of Re-Logic, Andrew “Redigit” Spinks.
On July 1, 2022, he published a Twitter post in which he wrote in a conversation: “Am I supposed to be nice? I’m adding even more traps just because of the accusation” or a month later, he stated that the best traps that would make you die are the ones you set yourself (via Twitter).
However, his own creations became his downfall. On Twitter, Redigit showed a screenshot of his in-game death on February 2, 2023. He wrote that he had already invested 12 hours into a hardcore run when a bat pushed him into an explosion trap:
This was not the end of it. The little nuisances in the game continued to sabotage his run.
Two days later, Redigit was asked if he had already completed the game in hardcore mode. He responded, “Only expert, and no. I always die in traps.” (via Twitter).
However, Andrew Spinks obviously takes it with humor and amuses himself over his own failure. The community also enjoys his failure and revels in it.
How does the community react? Twitter users are humorously responding to the post, joking that the developer had to experience firsthand how mean the traps in the game can sometimes be:
- Jack’O: “Look at that, how does it feel, Red?”
- Donut The Neko: “How the tables have turned”
- Timburr471: “I don’t know, man, if you hadn’t put in explosive traps, maybe this would have never happened”.
