Old School RuneScape has appeared on Steam, an MMORPG that is probably older than some of you. The popular game was released on Steam on February 24, 2021.
Update February 24: Old School RuneScape is now live on Steam.
What kind of MMORPG is this? Old School RuneScape is somewhat of a remake of the classic version of RuneScape from 2001. Over the years, the MMORPG has undergone many graphical and content changes, which not everyone appreciated.
For this reason, the developers decided in 2013 to set up an “Old School” version. It is based on a build of the game from 2007 and still offers the same old graphics that made RuneScape so popular back then.
Now, years later, Old School RuneScape is coming to Steam, after the “big brother” already landed on the gaming platform in October.

What makes it so special? The players of Old School RuneScape are hardcore fans who want their game just the way it was in 2007. When the developers wanted to introduce a change to the equipment in 2018, the players prevented it.
The fans are so loyal to their game that they even bomb the actual RuneScape on Steam with bad reviews.
Ancient MMORPG is still being played
What makes Old School RuneScape so good? The MMORPG remains true to its roots and has not undergone major changes. Many players appreciate this, and veterans enjoy the nostalgia that still prevails.
In addition, Old School RuneScape stands out with its simplicity, which anyone can jump into. Even newcomers quickly find their way, and the graphics are not unnecessarily polished at the expense of gameplay or content.
Additionally, there is a skill system where players improve in a skill by using it. This enhances long-term motivation.
Is it worth it? Currently, according to the official website, over 94,000 people are actively playing RuneScape (as of January 28). In addition, there are players who are currently not online. The community is still huge.
If you enjoy playing MMORPGs in a group, you will definitely find enough fellow players in Old School RuneScape. The community is also connected through trading and shared content like dungeons.
RuneScape works just as well alone. Many players are now taking on so-called “Iron Man Challenges.” In these, they may not trade with other players or accept items from them. They are only allowed to use the items they find themselves.
