That was probably nothing: The developers of Once Human asked on reddit to please rate their game positively on Steam. However, they had to retract the request after the poor patch on July 18. The update brought two serious issues.
That was the plan:
- As the U.S. site Kotaku reports, the developers of Once Human asked players on reddit to write positive reviews on Steam. Because there, the ratings were only “mixed” – even though player numbers are so high. Because Once Human is actually well-received, even by players who don’t pay.
- Apparently, the Chinese publisher NetEase and Starry Studio wanted this request to help “Once” Human move to a “positive” or higher Steam rating. Then the review rating on Steam would turn green, which looks like a buying signal.
- But the request for good reviews came at the wrong time.
Players lose their bases and items after patch
That was the problem: The new patch on July 18 for Once Human was so full of bugs that the atmosphere on reddit worsened. The patch caused players to lose items and even their bases, into which they had invested a lot of time.
The bases simply lacked walls.
Developers promise solution and compensation
This is how the developers are reacting: The developers have deleted the request for positive reviews and apologized for the problems in the game.
On Discord, it was said that both problems had been identified: both that items are lost when placed in the vault and the difficulties in base building.
They are working “as quickly as possible on a solution” – lost items will be replaced. Players affected by the patch will be compensated.
What should happen next? The first major update of the game is supposed to introduce new modes for PvE and PvP, and a new mountain region in the north will be added to Once Human, along with monsters and challenges.
Reviews on Steam are now narrowly at “Positive”
Despite the problems, the request for positive reviews apparently has had some effect: The reviews on Steam are currently at 70% – which is “mostly positive”, even if only narrowly. Already from 69%, the nice light green disappears and it goes back to the yellow “Mixed”.
