Once Human is the new survival hit on Steam. The advantage of the game is that you can play it for free. However, there is also a cash shop that offers cosmetic items for your character. But there is quite a bit of criticism regarding this. The developers are changing that now.
What is Once Human?
- The game is the new survival hit on Steam
- It is free-to-play and offers you a post-apocalyptic setting with aliens and quirky monsters
- As is typical for free games, there is also a cash shop where you can spend money on cosmetics.
This is also the main point of criticism, because Once Human has seasons. Your characters and the world exist only for this season. If you currently buy cosmetics in the shop, they are only for a single character and not account-wide.
Many players do not like that. But it has now been announced that this will change in August.

Cosmetics will soon be account-wide
What are the developers changing? The official X account of Once Human responded to the criticism from players. They understand the skepticism regarding the seasonal structure and how it can affect the experience and the feeling of progress.
In this context, they also talk about the cosmetics and that they are currently not account-wide.
We also know that it can be frustrating when cosmetics are tied to individual characters. We plan to make all purchased cosmetics accessible for multiple characters within the same account by August.

If you have already purchased the same cosmetics for different characters, the item will be refunded to you as currency for the shop during the transition. From August onwards, the cosmetics will then apply to all your characters.
The developers behind Once Human seem to take the players’ criticism seriously. At least they write in the post that the community should continue to share their points of criticism on X and in Discord. The creators of the game have also already addressed other improvement suggestions: Once Human launches to moderate reviews on Steam, quickly resolving a player criticism shortly after release
