What kind of anime is this? Saki Sanobashi, also known as “Go for a Punch,” is an anime from the 1980s in which a group of girls is trapped in a restroom without doors. They discuss never being able to leave the room before gradually growing desperate and losing hope.
The anime ends with the girls taking their own lives. At least that’s how a user of the platform 4chan remembered it in a thread from 2015.
This sparked a wild search for the original video.

The anime that never existed – or did it?
This is what the search for the anime looked like: Some users responded to the original post, asking the poster for more details. Apparently, his description had piqued their curiosity. The anonymous poster remembered a few details:
- There were a total of 9 girls, one of whom had very light, almost white hair.
- The other girls looked very similar to each other and had bushy, brown hair.
- He saw the video in 2011, but the quality felt like something from the 1980s.
- The user recalled the name “Go for a Punch,” but suspected that the title of the video may not necessarily match the name of the anime.
Following that, some users set out to find this mysterious anime. In another thread, the name Saki Sanobashi was eventually brought up. Although the name was never confirmed and does not make sense in this form in Japanese, it persisted.
Time and again, people reported having seen the anime, even though details varied. In some versions, for example, there were only 3 girls instead of 9. However, there was a consensus that there was a blonde girl – she was said to be the titular “Saki.”
On Reddit, two communities emerged that deal with the search:
- The original SakiSanobashi subreddit
- And the newer subreddit SakisanNoBashitsu for those who take the search seriously.
Both subreddits have several thousand members.
The search also received a significant boost from a video by YouTuber Whang! from 2019, which gained over 1 million views.
Despite all efforts to find the anime, it remains unclear to this day whether Saki Sanobashi ever existed. Although it is not impossible that there is some obscure video somewhere that fits the poster’s description, the trend seems to lean towards the idea that this anime never existed.
The poster might have either been a troll or mixed various actually existing anime in his memory.
However, that does not stop some users from stubbornly believing in the existence of Saki Sanobashi. Conversely, a user who claimed to be the original poster and said he had made the whole thing up was also exposed as fake (via Reddit).
The allure likely lies in how convincingly the original poster described the anime. After all, it takes quite a lot to upset hardened 4chan users like that. Moreover, the description certainly feels like something that could actually have existed.
After all, everyone has heard of truly bizarre anime or has stumbled upon really disturbing videos online while being way too young. Another mystery that occupied users for years was finally solved in 2024. Therefore, it is not out of the question that we will eventually learn the truth about Saki Sanobashi.
The uncertainty, however, did not stop some fans from simply creating their own Saki Sanobashi – in the form of a game from Steam.
So what kind of game is this? Go For A Punch! Saki Sanobashi is a visual novel that was released on September 14, 2023, on Steam. The story is based on the original post and follows 4 students who are trapped in the restroom of an abandoned school. However, the developers promise minor deviations and twists.
The game holds an overall rating of “Mostly Positive” and is currently priced at €1.39 on Steam, which is a 30% discount from the regular price of €1.99.
