An incident during the Overwatch League stream is likely to be remembered for a while. There, convicted serial killers were shown as “loving mother”.
Last Sunday was Mother’s Day worldwide, when gamers also remembered their mothers and showed them how much they care. Many responded to this call, but there was also a troll who “sneaked” a very special image into the stream. It showed convicted serial killers and child molesters from the UK.
What happened? The Overwatch League had called for viewers to celebrate Mother’s Day a bit during the stream. Viewers were encouraged to share photos of their mothers under the hashtag #OWLMoms and explain why they love their moms so much.
A troll apparently took this as an opportunity to make a joke. He didn’t use a picture of his mother but rather two convicted serial killers. This tweet was then shown on the Overwatch League stream – among others.
Recently, the OWL made headlines with a botched coin toss.
Who was in the picture? The picture was an early photo of Frederick and Rosemary West, two British serial killers who were convicted in 1994. The man took his own life in prison, while Rosemary is still incarcerated today.
This may not be common knowledge, but it is quite well known. It seems to have escaped the Steam operators of the Overwatch League, who were searching for relevant tweets. Thus, the tweet featuring the serial killers was shown.
Many viewers immediately noticed that they had seen the image before and repeatedly pointed this out loudly in the comments. So far, there has been no reaction from the Overwatch League to the incident.
