- Features: PvE, group play, quests
- Model: Subscription
What is Pantheon? In the MMORPG Pantheon, adventures with friends are a regular occurrence. You set out in a group to complete quests, fight monsters, defeat bosses, and explore the world. Classic theme park gameplay is the focus here.
- The classes have the familiar roles of Tank, Damage Dealer, and Healer
- You will encounter a vast fantasy world divided into zones
- You complete numerous quests
- New quests become available to you if you are attentive and possess a high “Perception” skill
- Grouped play is paramount
- You explore many large dungeons full of dangers. These dungeons are not instanced, so you can encounter other players who are not in your group
- PvP takes place on specific servers, but the focus of the game is on PvE
What is Old-School about it? Nowadays, many MMORPGs also cater to single players. Many content pieces need to be doable by a player alone. Not so in Pantheon. Here, group content is central. For example, you can only conquer the vast dungeons together with friends.
What classic game is it comparable to? Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen aims to revive the gameplay experience that Everquest 1 brought to the MMORPG genre. No wonder, as Brad McQuaid is the designer of Pantheon. McQuaid was responsible for Everquest and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes at Sony.
Who is Pantheon for? Pantheon is an MMORPG for anyone who wants to experience “real” multiplayer adventures with friends. If you want to play Everquest again in a somewhat modern guise, keep an eye on Pantheon.
If you love old-school games but don’t want to play classics because they just aren’t modern anymore, then the presented games might appeal to you. They all have that old-school touch but still want to feel modern. How well these titles play, we will find out in 2019.
