In 2012, the MMO shooter Planetside 2 was released. Now, about 8 years later, it received many updates in the “Shattered Warpgate” update, including the first story campaign in the game.
What’s new? “Shattered Warpgate” is the latest update in Planetside 2 and is already available for PC. The release for PS4 is planned for the end of October.
The update brought among other things the following innovations:
- A complete overhaul of the continent Esamir, including new bases for players, new flora, and a storm sweeping across the map
- New daily missions that can unlock rewards
- New weapons and gear
- Adjustments to the social hub “Sanctuary”
- Adjustments to the costs of War Assets
However, the biggest innovation is the story campaign. It is the first of its kind in the shooter. You will experience it in the open world through a series of events and missions.
Several campaigns are planned, which will be available for free to premium players. Free2Play players will have to purchase them for real money.
What is the campaign about? The story revolves around an explosion near a gate in the northeastern Esamir. The Nanite Systems are initiating an investigation into the mysteries surrounding this event.
They are seeking support from soldiers across all realms. Thus, you will join the expedition.
Planetside 2 remains popular 8 years after its release
How is the shooter doing? Planetside 2 remains one of the most popular MMO shooters on the market even long after its release. In 2020, the game even experienced a resurgence on Steam, which was also due to the major update “Escalation”.
In March, Planetside 2 even made it into the Guinness World Records with a massive battle. 1,283 players participated in a battle simultaneously. This broke the record previously set by the game itself back in 2015.
The colleagues from GameStar have created a fitting video about Planetside 2:
