Now even Tetris is getting a battle royale spin-off on mobile devices. If you have always wanted to stack blocks in a duel against 99 other players, you can soon do so with Tetris Royale on iOS and Android everywhere.
This has now been announced: Since the big hype around Fortnite , many renowned game developers and publishers have been trying to secure a piece of the profitable battle royale pie – also on mobile devices. Now, a rather exotic candidate will soon jump on the battle royale bandwagon – Tetris.
As The Tetris Company and the mobile developer N3twork have now announced, Tetris will get a mobile spin-off. The game is called Tetris Royale and is expected to be released for iPhone, iPad, and devices with the Android operating system.
Tetris Royale is just part of a multi-year partnership between the two companies, during which several Tetris games will be developed.
When is the release of Tetris Royale? Currently, this is not yet known. However, there should already be a beta phase in selected countries during the year.
How does Tetris Royale play? Gameplay or screenshots of Tetris Royale have not been presented yet. However, the concept sounds similar to that of Tetris 99 – also a battle royale spin-off of Tetris, but for the Nintendo Switch console.
You can see what that looks like in this trailer for Tetris 99:
There will be competitive “matches” in Tetris Royale for up to 100 players until only one remains. Additionally, there will be other game modes such as solo marathon, seasonal leaderboards, and daily challenges.
Players can then grab various rewards, such as boosts, power-ups, or other customization options.
What do you think about Tetris getting a battle royale spin-off?
