The BlizzConline 2022 has been canceled, there will be no big event. Does this also mean there will be no new games?
When it comes to Blizzard, there have been many negative news articles in recent months. For many long-time fans, a glimmer of hope was the upcoming “BlizzConline” in February 2022. But it has now been canceled by Blizzard. They want to focus their energy on game development and overhaul the entire event in the future.
What has been said? In an official announcement on the Blizzard website, it was announced that the BlizzConline planned for February 2022, the online version of BlizzCon, will be canceled. This was “a difficult decision, but the right one”.
It is especially emphasized that BlizzCon is always supported by the whole company. A large part of the staff has to take care of planning and hosting, which requires many resources. This year, they want to focus the necessary energy “best on supporting the teams and advancing the development of the players”.
BlizzCon is set to be revamped: At the same time, Blizzard wants to revise the concept of BlizzCon and adapt it to the current zeitgeist. The first BlizzCon took place 16 years ago and “many things have changed since then – especially the many ways in which players and communities come together and feel part of something bigger.” The event should, whatever it looks like in the future, be “safe, welcoming, and as inclusive as possible”.
Blizzard wants to stay in touch with the community, and BlizzCon has always played a major role in this and should continue to do so in the future.
So nothing new is coming out? Not quite, that is also being clarified. Although there will be no BlizzCon, there will still be news and updates for the individual games that will take place through other channels – just like before. It is stated:
We have many exciting news and releases to talk about. You will hear about them in the future through the channels of the individual franchises, supported by the talented team that usually hosts BlizzCon.
So there’s probably no need to worry about new releases, they will continue to be announced, even without a big fair surrounding it.
Do you think Blizzard’s decision is good? Or would you have looked forward to another BlizzConline?
