Nothing is as closely associated as the Jedi Knights from Star Wars and their lightsabers. Yet, Fortnite keeps releasing skins without the iconic weapon, even though it would make so much sense. The latest example: Obi-Wan Kenobi.
This is the Obi-Wan skin: The new Obi-Wan Kenobi series is starting soon. Unsurprisingly, Fortnite has released a new skin pack featuring the titular hero himself, Obi-Wan Kenobi. This was already made available over the weekend for the winners of the Obi-Wan Cup, and it should soon be available for purchase in the shop.
The set consists of several cosmetics:
There is the Obi-Wan skin, which allows you to transform into the Jedi Master. Additionally, there are:
- The back accessory “Desert Gear,” which likely contains everything Obi-Wan needs during his exile on Tatooine.
- The Jedi starfighter from the movies that you can use as a glider.
- An emote called “Obi-Wan’s Message.”
- And, of course, Obi-Wan’s iconic weapon “Obi-Wan’s Blade.” A small knife that allows the Jedi Master to gather resources and fight.

Fans say: Just give us lightsabers already
This is what the fans say: While the Obi-Wan skin itself is well received and, for example, scores points with the glider, many wonder why Obi-Wan comes with “Obi-Wan’s Blade” as a harvesting tool – and not with his lightsaber.
This means Obi-Wan ends up in the group of Star Wars characters who should obviously have a lightsaber as a harvesting tool but are instead swinging around something else. Both Rey and Kylo Ren from the new movies are in the game, but do not have their lightsabers by default.
While the popular blades from Star Wars have appeared as weapons in Battle Royale occasionally – they are still not available as cosmetics.
And at least for Obi-Wan, fans apparently would have liked to see that. In the Fortnite subreddit “FortniteLeaks,” some users are annoyed about the missing weapon, especially since the lightsaber even hangs from his new “Desert Gear” backpack without being used:
- “Didn’t know his famous weapon was a butter knife,” writes user “MasterChief49” (via reddit).
- “I can’t wait for them to stick the Death Star on a stick for Darth Vader as a pickaxe,” jokes another user (via reddit).
- “I really wanted to buy this, but it’s pretty disappointing to have a damn shovel in hand and not see an integrated hood emote,” criticizes user “ZazaBoo” (via reddit).
Overall, some players are sad that there are no further variations of the skin, while content creator “Ali-A” received a huge skin pack.
Why the Star Wars heroes are currently without their weapons as harvesting tools in the game is still unknown. Some players suspect it has to do with licensing rights and Fortnite can only use the swords as weapons, but not as cosmetics.
Others speculate that it would perhaps be too confusing if both the cosmetic and the weapon existed simultaneously. However, a similar situation occurred with Wolverine’s claws – there was no problem.
There is currently no official information on this topic. Nevertheless, players continue to hope to be able to run around with the lightsabers of their heroes as harvesting tools someday – and not with any substitute items.
