A player considered how difficult it actually is to kill the heroes of Overwatch . Because it’s not only important how much they can take, but also how big they are.
What are these values? The reddit user sdarwkcaB-ssA took the effort to look at which hero in Overwatch is actually more difficult to kill. To calculate that, he considered several factors such as:
- the size of the hero (hitbox)
- the amount of health points
- the size of the head (critical hit zone)
- the ratio of body to head
The data for the hitboxes was taken from user Blue2180, who compiled the hit zones of all available heroes.
This is how the values are calculated: With all these values, sdarwkcaB-ssA calculated how long a hero would withstand fire. To do this, he determined two values: hit points per hitbox and hit points per critical hit zone.
Generally, this means that a hero is harder to kill the more hit points he can offer over a small area. From the data, sdarwkcaB-ssA created a chart that shows how difficult it is to kill a hero:
The blue bars represent hit points per hitbox, while the orange ones represent hit points per critical hit zone. The larger a bar, the harder it is to kill a hero.
Which hero is now how hard to kill?
These heroes are particularly hard to kill: What may stand out to you first is the size of the bars for Brigitte. These indicate that Brigitte is by far the hardest hero to kill, as she has significantly more hit points on a much smaller (critical) hitbox.
What these numbers show is likely also the impression of the community, because many people are extremely frustrated with Brigitte. However, she is not the only hero who can take a lot of damage.
Mei and the two tanks, Zarya and Sigma, are also extremely robust according to the numbers. Especially Sigma, who has a variety of strong tricks at his disposal, seems to be a tough nut to crack.
These heroes are particularly easy to kill: However, the table also shows that many tanks surprisingly have the lowest survival chances – with the exception of Zarya, who is the only one with more hit points per hitbox than Brigitte.
Although tanks all have significantly more hit points than other heroes, they also have a much larger hitbox. In comparison, the hamster Hammond has nearly 3 times larger hitbox than the healer Ana.
Tanks like Reinhardt and Roadhog have almost 5 times larger hit zones, while D.Va has even over 6 times larger. This is the reason why they are easier to take down according to the table.
How accurate are the values? Several factors make the calculation somewhat imprecise. On the one hand, the values for the hitboxes are not absolutely correct. Blue2180 calculated them from connected points and then matched them against Ana’s hitbox, which can contain natural rounding errors.
On the other hand, abilities, movement, and shields are not taken into account. The table shows values for heroes who are not moving and not defending. Since this is not realistic, they serve more as guidelines rather than for precise determinations.
