Last night, a very personal video message raced through the Destiny 2 community. Recorded by the voice actor of Uldren Sov and Crow, Brandon O’Neill. It was directed specifically to the Twitch streamer Liv. What was going on?
In Destiny 2, players are currently eagerly awaiting what will happen in the ongoing story of Season 15. Especially now that the big bombshell has dropped.
This is the current status of the Destiny 2 story:
- Savathun has been suppressed by Mara Sov in her crystal prison after the incident with Crow. She continues to wait in silence for her “worm exorcism.”
- No one currently knows where Osiris is – or whether he is even alive. The Vanguard is doing everything it can to find him. If he is dead, the deal with Savathun will fall through.
- The 14th Guardian is sick with worry and nearly at his end. He desperately tells every Guardian who picks up Trials bounties how much he misses Osiris and that he still has hope.
Otherwise, one question remains open: “Where is Crow and what is he doing?” Many players who experienced the fate of Crow wondered how he is doing after the revelation. His departure was abrupt and it was uncertain whether he might be desperately ending his own life. Moreover, he left alone – without his ghost.
However, he has now sent a very personal message to one Guardian. And with that, also a first sign of life.
Who received the message? Liv, also known as “LockandloadLiv”, is a Twitch streamer who primarily streams Destiny 2. She is known as the biggest Crow fan in Destiny 2, especially within the American community. She is the fortunate one who Crow has reached out to during his loneliness.
The message reads as follows:
Liv, is that you?
I don’t have much time. Things have been a bit … off lately. Glint hasn’t left me alone, not even for a second. I wanted to thank you for everything. You have always supported me over the years, even through everything I have gone through. We have gone through. I’m not sure right now, everything is so murky yet so clear. I don’t know what will happen next, but I know it will be something big. I need you by my side to help me with this. Your support keeps me going. I have to go now. I hear Glint coming back to check on me.
Take care of yourself, Liv.
Hope to see you soon…
Crow is alive and seemingly coming back soon: Even if he does not address the rest of the community, we now know he is still there. It is likely also not the last encounter with him. We are expecting “something big”. Unfortunately, he does not reveal what he has been doing on Venus all this time. However, one thing is clear from the message: Crow is ready to move on.
The rest technically does not fit 100% with the current story in Season 15. Glint, Crow’s ghost, is still supporting us in the Festival of the Lost and in our hunt for the mythical Headless Ones. So, it is not entirely accurate to say he hasn’t left his side.
Crow fans are jealous: Why does this particular Twitch streamer receive such a personal message from an NPC? It is evidently not an official communication from Bungie. What criteria led to Liv being chosen?
The prevailing theory suggests that someone commissioned the voice actor to record this for Liv. It was also sent to her anonymously. Upon inquiry, Brandon O’Neill has yet to comment on it. It’s quite possible that it is indeed just a gift from a loyal fan who wanted to honor Liv’s passion for Crow.
However, she is no longer alone in her passion for Crow and happily shared this message with the entire Destiny 2 community.
Crow continues to divide the community
Crow is a favorite NPC for some: His transformation is ambiguous. From enemy and murderer to friend and fellow guardian. On one hand, Crow is an outcast who deserves forgiveness. This victim role has brought him sympathy and new fans. Uldren Sov, on the other hand, remains a murderer whom we have judged ourselves. His return is a necessary evil that cannot be escaped.
Longtime players who remember Cayde-6 do not warm up to Crow and what he once was. As 45slayz wrote on reddit:
Meh, I just wish we could take him for DMG tests and so on in the Crucible …. similar to the Tribute Hall, but specifically for PvP ….. it would satisfy my underlying desire to give him the thousand deaths he deserved as Uldren and gives him a mortally acceptable reason to be there (he just helps us).
The exact opposite are new Destiny 2 players, like YEAHYEAHOKv2. He openly writes about it on reddit:
I love him, he hasn’t done anything wrong. People who say “But he’s Uldren” – that’s not Uldren, he’s not the same person anymore, I really feel sorry for him. Some Lore says that a Titan randomly found him and almost beat him to death (he eventually bled out and died) and didn’t know why people hated him because he’s not the same person.
Is this still Uldren Sov? Or is this truly 100% a new, different person? Especially since he now remembers his past. The community is divided on this point. However, Crow fans celebrate his personal message to Liv and widely shared it via social media with their followers.
By the way: This is already the second message of this kind that Destiny 2 players have received. A few weeks ago, Zavala’s voice actor Lance Reddick delivered a joyous message to a soon-to-be father. This warm exchange is always incredible and shows how much the voice actors of Destiny 2 love what they do.
What do you think about Crow? Are you happy with the news that he is well and has great things ahead of us? Or are you one of those Destiny 2 players who are glad he is gone again?
