Currently, those looking to buy a Nintendo Switch OLED are either unable to find one or must pay a hefty premium. After the RTX 3080, scalpers have now set their sights on the Switch.
On October 8, the Switch OLED officially launched in stores. It is a slightly improved model of the regular Nintendo Switch, but by now you can hardly find it anywhere.
The hardware shortage persists and almost every new product is affected. Scalpers are at it again. They sell you the consoles that you couldn’t buy yourself and, of course, ask for a markup. And this is sometimes quite steep. How high the prices are currently can be found here.
The Nintendo Switch OLED is currently available for a markup of around 30%
What is the price of the Nintendo Switch OLED? The official retail price from Nintendo is 359 euros. The price is thus 60 euros higher than the normal model with LCD. What is the current cost of the OLED version? At the moment you can buy the handheld console, but only from various third-party sellers. And the prices are well above the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP):
- On Amazon, prices start at 470 euros for the Nintendo Switch OLED, which is 120 euros above the MSRP.
- On eBay, prices range between 420 and 450 euros. The price is also almost 100 euros above the original price.
- On Geizhals.de, prices for the OLED version start at 499 euros.
Christmas is likely to drive prices up in the near future
How will prices develop? Here we cannot give a reliable forecast as to whether prices will continue to rise or fall again.
Looking ahead to the coming weeks, we would assume that prices are more likely to rise than fall. As the end of October/beginning of November marks the start of the Christmas shopping season for many.
By November 26 at the latest, things should really kick off. That’s when Black Friday takes place in the USA and is considered the start of the Christmas shopping season here. And just before Christmas, it is not unusual for prices to rise again.
