The collaboration between the Korean publisher Nexon and EA Games on the MMO Titanfall Online has been discontinued. The companies cite long development time and changes in the gaming market as reasons.
The development of Titanfall Online began in 2015, with the MMO based on the first part of the successful shooter Titanfall by Respawn Entertainment. The free-to-play game was specifically aimed at the Asian market, similar to Halo Online, What would Titanfall Online have looked like?
As in many other Asian MMO games, players would have had the opportunity to create a character and control one of the titans in battle. The mechs available were Atlas, Ogre, Stryder, and Destroyer. The development was already relatively advanced, and there were also gameplay videos and beta tests: But despite the advanced stage, the decision was made to discontinue the development of the game. But why was Titanfall Online canceled? The main reasons for the cancellation were the long development time and the rapidly changing gaming market in Korea. Over the past few years, the focus of gamers has shifted away from PCs and towards the mobile market. Thus, the publishers were concerned that there was no longer enough demand and that the MMO would not be able to remain successful over a long time. The community’s reaction was also not enthusiastic enough to justify a continuation of development. The partnership between Nexon and EA continues: The cancellation of the Titanfall project has not harmed the relationship between the two publishers, as the decision to discontinue the MMO was mutual.
