On March 20, 2025, the next live-action adaptation of a Disney classic will be released. After The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, one of the most important Disney films follows: Snow White. However, the film’s adaptation is not being received positively by everyone. Not even by the son of the original director.
Why is the original Snow White such an important film? Although Disney had made smaller animated films before, the best-known example is probably Steamboat Willie from 1928. However, the first true feature film was Snow White from 1937.

Not even the son of the supervision director of the original, David Hand. He criticizes the live-action adaptations and believes that neither his father nor Walt Disney would have been satisfied with them.

What does David Hand’s son say? David Hale Hand spoke to telegraph.co.uk in light of the live-action adaptation and had no good words for the upcoming remake. He believes that his father and Walt Disney would not have liked such a remake.

In addition, he says that the stories of these remakes are changed too much. They are no longer the originals. I honestly find it a bit offensive what they have done to some of these film classics.
The 91-year-old calls the film woke
and says he does not like such things. Later in the interview, he also mentions Adriana Caselotti, who voiced Snow White in the original. He believes she would be shocked by the remake.
How valid is his criticism? Of course, Disney’s live-action remakes of well-known classics are worthy of criticism. Often, the charming aesthetics are replaced with a generic design. However, the criticism that everything is changed does not quite fit.
As Jeuxvideo describes, the 1937 film does not adhere to the original story of the Brothers Grimm either. Many Disney adaptations are more child-friendly and superficial than the classic fairy tales. Remakes can also turn classics into modern, good versions.
