Currently, the rumor mill is buzzing around Destiny 3. Many fans are worried that the next installment of the series might forgo traditional PvP. Bungie has now commented on the rumors.
Here’s what the rumors are about: In the past few days, there has been a lot of buzz around Destiny 3.
Initially, numerous new rumors about the Destiny 2 successor surfaced on Reddit through a leak on the platform 4chan. There were also some new snippets of information from the well-known Destiny leaker AnonTheNine.
Both leaks suggest that Destiny 3 will offer open-world areas where there will be PvEvP gameplay – a kind of open PvP combined with PvE. The 4chan leak also mentions PvP faction wars and battle for territory.
Many fans are now concerned that Destiny 3 might not include traditional PvP in the Crucible format.
Here’s what Bungie says: Although the studio rarely comments on such rumors, it has done so now. Thousands of nervous fans demanded clarity on Reddit in numerous threads.
In a stream for Bungie Bounty, community manager DeeJ addressed the fans’ concerns yesterday, April 3.
He said that he knows there’s a lot of talk about the Crucible and that there are many speculations. However, there are numerous members of the development team who are working on PvP and the future evolution of the Crucible every day, including now.
He is aware that this statement raises millions of further questions, but this is a Bungie Bounty and not a reveal stream. There’s nothing he could elaborate on at this point.
As much as he regrets leaving the players with this statement – they want to choose the right moment and the right people to deliver this news.
Later, community manager dmg04 also announced on Twitter: “I can confirm: The Crucible is not going anywhere.”
The PvP in its current Crucible format is likely to remain for fans – even in a possible Destiny 3.
Why were fans so nervous? These statements should have calmed numerous agitated fans. However, until yesterday, the mood was quite different.
While neither of the leaks explicitly stated that traditional PvP in the Crucible format would no longer be available, AnonTheNine only noted that he did not know if anything would change with the Crucible.
Yet many fans concluded from certain details of the rumors and the general situation around the Crucible that there might be changes.
Many fans believe that PvP has not received enough love recently. There are hardly any innovations or substantial changes. Additionally, communication regarding PvP and further Crucible plans from Bungie has been rather sparse for months.
Recently, there were also sudden departures of two well-known members of the sandbox team, who were responsible for balance – also in the Crucible.
In connection with the rumors of a supposed PvEvP focus in Destiny 3, many fans and PvP lovers became nervous. They wanted certainty about whether there is still a place for them in Bungie’s future plans.
Would you give up the Crucible format in favor of open PvP or a large-scale PvEvP format? Or is PvP in its current form an absolute must for the Destiny series?
