Normally, Day-1 patches are rather unpopular among players. However, after the Early Access of Battlefield 2042, it becomes clear that fans are practically longing for them. You can find out why this is the case and whether there will be one here with us at MeinMMO.
This is how the Early Access launch of Battlefield 2042 went: One can say that the early launch of Battlefield 2042 was rather mixed. The game struggled with numerous issues from the very beginning.
While the servers only had a bit of a hiccup on the release weekend and there were no major outages, there are several other technical and gameplay issues:
These include, for example:
- The “broken” spread of assault rifles
- The spawn bug, where players cannot be revived or respawned
- Hovercrafts are so OP that they can simply drive up the walls of skyscrapers
- And countless other things that are missing or not functioning as many players would like.
Apparently, the community’s anger goes so far that death threats have reportedly been made against the developers.
Now many players hope that a Day-1 patch will at least address and solve some of the issues. However, one news brings disappointment. Because the patch is apparently already here.
Day-1 patch apparently already released before launch, causes disappointment
According to industry insider Tom Henderson, there should actually be 3 updates within the first 3 weeks after the official release. However, the first update seems to have been released earlier than expected and it looks strongly as if this was already the Day-1 patch.
What kind of patch was it? Yesterday, on November 18, update 0.21 was released. While it fixed a pesky rubber banding issue that could sling players across the map, it otherwise only addressed minor issues.
The bigger problems that drive the community crazy are still in the game. Fans are not too thrilled about this, as seen in the subreddit and on Twitter. Insider Tom Henderson writes: “It looks like today was the Day 1 patch… Ouch.”
Some players are also expressing disappointment on reddit. Szerek54 sarcastically writes: “I am waiting for the announcement that the game will go into maintenance mode next week.” (via reddit)
From the reactions, it can be concluded that numerous players had significantly higher hopes for a potential Day-1 patch. That the patch meets these hopes is probably not the case for now.
Is another patch in sight? According to the official EA website, two more updates are planned for the month after release. Although it is not known what exactly these will fix, we already know of some things that developer DICE is officially aware of.
These include, for example, the issues with assault rifles and the revival bug. We will keep you updated with the latest information as always.
Normally, Day-1 patches are rather unpopular
Why is this unusual? In general, these updates do not have a good reputation among players. They are often seen as a sign that the developers released the game too early and did not take enough time to fix errors.
Furthermore, these patches are sometimes quite large, which often means that you cannot start playing as soon as the game is released. Sometimes, you have to download dozens of gigabytes just to be able to start the game.
The state of the game is likely causing players to yearn for updates and fixes for the issues.
But what do you think about it? Did you also have hopes for a larger Day-1 patch? Or did you already suspect that it wouldn’t come through on everything?
