With the release of Forsaken, Destiny 2 has fundamentally changed. This includes the drop rate of exotic items – whether they are weapons or armor pieces. Because with exotics, players are currently seldom rewarded in the game. We want to know from you: How do you feel about it?
At the beginning of Destiny 2, players were literally flooded with exotics, but in Forsaken one can experience the other extreme. Almost two weeks since the release of the major autumn expansion, it quickly becomes apparent: The drop rate of the most coveted weapons and armors has been reduced – and noticeably so.
Is this current state good or bad for Destiny 2?
The Exotic Drop Rate in Forsaken – A Heated Debate
The community is discussing: The rare exotic drops are being vigorously debated on Reddit and in numerous forums. Many players report that after more than 50 hours of gameplay, they have only received a few exotics.
Some users state that they have not seen a single piece of exotic gear (except for the Pikass) – some even after more than 100 hours of playtime invested.

Even Xur has not been of any help. Because so far, the noodle face has only had Year-1 exotics available.
Is the drop rate now too low? The current predominant sentiment within the community: One person’s joy is another’s sorrow. While the current state has many supporters, it also has many opponents.
What Supporters of the Low Drop Rate Say
Good loot should be rare: The fundamental attitude of many supporters is that exotic items are mostly the best and strongest gear in the game and should therefore be rare.
Moreover, the hunt for rare gear is exactly what keeps many guardians engaged in the long term – like when it came to the Gjallarhorn in Destiny 1. This makes the hobby aspect more noticeable again.
The approach at launch was not optimal: The path that Destiny 2 started at the beginning, where players could get almost all exotics together in just a few weeks, was considered exaggerated by large parts of the community.
Additionally, many exotics were long unworthy of their designation. Only through numerous revisions did they become increasingly attractive to guardians.
This is how it should be: By lowering the drop rate, increasing the RNG factor, and improving the exotics, what many fans have long desired is now being achieved – rare and attractive gear that is worth grinding for days, weeks, or even months.
Furthermore, there are also exotic quests like for the Whisper Sniper, for the Pikass, or for Chaperon that offer exotic gear.

Arguments Against a Low Drop Rate
No fun without reward: Many guardians, however, believe that it is depressing and demotivating to invest dozens of hours or more in a game and then not be rewarded accordingly.
If one has gone more than 50 hours of playtime and completed the most challenging activities without seeing an exotic, it destroys any incentive to invest more time in the game – especially when none of the exciting new exotics can be tried out.
More secure sources for exotics if drop rate stays the same: It is often read that guardians wish for more exotic quests or other secure ways to get exotics when the drop rate is reduced so drastically.
It would enhance the enjoyment of the game if one could earn strong exotic gear through effort and dedication – without having to rely completely on the random factor (RNG).
Casual players have it hard: Furthermore, it is criticized that particularly guardians with little time are disadvantaged. If the drop rate for exotics remains so low, they will hardly enjoy new exotics.
In view of the new exotic gear, this is very unfortunate. In the past, Xur always proved to be a reliable exotic source for players with little time, but whether that will remain the case is still uncertain. Because the last time, his inventory only consisted of Year-1 exotics. Whether and how often Year-2 items will be offered by him remains to be seen.
