Overwatch 2 has just launched a rather interesting PvE mission. No one should miss it, as this could also look like Blizzard’s campaign.
In Overwatch 2, the Halloween event has started, bringing the new “Junkenstein’s Revenge: Wrath of the Bride” mode. Those who thought it was merely a rehash of Junkenstein’s wave mode are mistaken. The new Halloween mode is significantly more than that and may even provide a glimpse of what to expect in Overwatch’s PvE mode.
Therefore, we strongly recommend: Check out the new mode while it is available.
What kind of mode is this? The Halloween mode “Junkenstein’s Revenge: Wrath of the Bride” is more akin to a small adventure and cannot be compared to the familiar “wave” mode. Instead, the four heroes begin at different points, need to find each other first, and then must complete a series of missions to drive away Junkenstein’s evil bride. There are several boss fights that can get quite hectic, and even a few genuine horror elements have made their way into the mode – including some jump-scare moments.
This is interspersed with dialogues between the four heroines, resulting in a short but engaging story.
How can one start the mode? The “Junkenstein’s Revenge” game mode is a bit hidden and not visible from the main menu. You need to navigate to the “Arcade” and select the very left menu item. Afterwards, you can determine the difficulty.
In the “Story” mode, it is virtually impossible to die, so we recommend starting at least on “Hard” – that provides a good challenge. “Expert” or even “Nightmare” is only suitable for well-coordinated teams that master all four available heroes (Kiriko, Junker Queen, Sojourn and Ashe) very well.
By the way: It’s best to play the mode with a full group of 4 people. Trolls can block the game by picking up a key and not going to the locked gate with it.
PvE, as it could be in Overwatch 2
The big hope now is that this mode represents a kind of preview of what the PvE mode of Overwatch 2 could look like. It is astonishing how much interesting gameplay Blizzard has extracted from the relatively small map “Eichenwald” – and that despite the four heroines not being customizable, and the enemies acting rather stupidly (but appropriately).
If this is an indication and a preview of how campaigns in Overwatch 2 might look, it could rekindle the hope of many fans.
So, even if you can’t get behind Overwatch 2, especially the monetization: Junkenstein’s Revenge: Wrath of the Bride is definitely worth it, as the gameplay is simply fun and requires good teamwork.
Have you tried the new mode yet? Or can you not get into the Wrath of the Bride?
With a bad combo, you can currently “easily” farm team kills in Overwatch 2.
