It was clear that the players of the online game No Man’s Sky would try to find each other in the vast universe. And that did happen – but not quite as hoped.
In principle, No Man’s Sky is an MMO. There are thousands of players in the universe, but they are very spread out. According to the game’s developers, it is supposed to be nearly impossible for two players to meet. But such statements are a challenge for gamers who want to make the impossible possible. And so it happened that two players noticed they were coincidentally in the same solar system. The player TheSadCactus noticed that another player named Psytokat had already given this system a name.
An Encounter of the Invisible
So the two wanted to meet as well. They communicated through the PSN and agreed on a meeting point. However, upon arrival, the two players could not see each other, even though they were at the same spot. Additionally, the day-night cycle of the planet did not correspond for both. While one was experiencing day, the planet for the other was in the night phase. It seemed as if the players were not in the same instance.
Causes Unknown
It is currently unclear what this is due to. The developers at Hello Games actually explained that it is possible – albeit highly unlikely due to the size of the universe – for players to meet. Therefore, the disappointment was naturally great when they could not see each other at a meeting. One problem could be that one player was continually struggling with PSN connection drops. Another plausible reason could be that the servers were simply overloaded at the game’s launch.
The two players, however, want to keep trying to meet.
