The head of No Man’s Sky, Sean Murray, triumphs: His game is one of the biggest in the world at least this week. In a tweet, Murray announces the late success on PS4, Xbox One, and Steam. Two years after release, No Man’s Sky has finally arrived thanks to Next.
Tough years 2016 and 2017: No Man’s Sky was released in 2016 to poor reviews. It faced harsh criticism.
Even worse was the situation with the players: No Man’s Sky had a rough time with the fans. After the hype around the space opus was so great, the disappointment hit even harder.
Frontman Sean Murray had described the game in the most dazzling colors before release, even appearing on US talk shows. He felt the wrath of gamers the hardest. After the launch, Murray even received death threats because the promised features were missing in the completed game. For example, there were no butterflies.
Hard work: The team at Hello Games has been intensely working on No Man’s Sky in recent years to make the game what the players once expected.
Next apparently brings the turnaround after two years
Great week: Last week saw a major renaissance:
- No Man’s Sky was available for the Xbox One for the first time
- Furthermore, the big update Next came for PC and PlayStation 4, which introduced “real” multiplayer and many new features
Developer triumphs: Sean Murray has now tweeted a picture showing No Man’s Sky at number 6 of the most played games on Steam. He says:
I never thought we would be here two years later. No Man’s Sky is one of the most played games in the world this week on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Every day has been bigger than the last.
Everyone loves a comeback story: The numbers on Steam are clearly visible. For PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it’s harder to say. But apparently, Murray has exact numbers and is celebrating his late comeback.
Who would have thought that No Man’s Sky, the big disappointment of 2016, would still become a feel-good story. But everyone just loves a good comeback story.
