No Man’s Sky was released yesterday. What are the first opinions about the game?
Yesterday, No Man’s Sky celebrated its release and took off with a multitude of curious explorers into the vastness of the procedurally generated galaxy. This space simulation is an ambitious indie game by Hello Games, which, however, carries the price tag of a blockbuster game. Some gamers are still undecided whether this game is for them. Therefore, reviews and tests are exciting and can be found on the internet. These might just convince you to make a purchase – or not.
A website often visited for this purpose is the American rating aggregator Metacritic. Here you can see the tests from representatives of the specialized press and read the opinions of numerous gamers.
No Man’s Sky polarizes – as predicted by the developers
No Man’s Sky won’t be for everyone. As the founder of Hello Games, Sean Murray, said, the game is not meant for everyone. He predicted that it would be very controversial. It is a niche game. And Sean Murray was right – No Man’s Sky polarizes.
However, since the game is incredibly vast and each player has different experiences in it, many major gaming sites are currently hesitant to provide a definitive overall rating. On Metacritic, although first reviews from GameSpot, IGN, or GamesRadar+ can already be read, all are still “in progress” and therefore unrated.
So far, only two sites have settled on an overall rating on Metacritic: “We Got This Covered” and “The Jimquisition”. In both cases, No Man’s Sky only performs mediocre in the test. There was a 7.0 and a 5.0.
Metacritic users, however, are more decisive: Over 2200 gamers have cast their votes, with negative and positive opinions balancing out. As this article is being written, there are 1012 thumbs up, 1087 thumbs down. 108 users chose the middle ground. Overall, Metacritic gives No Man’s Sky a user score of 5.0.
On GamersGlobal, the most comprehensive test of No Man’s Sky has been published so far in the German-speaking region. Jörg Langer expresses much criticism of the implementation of the innovative space game:
No Man’s Sky is like a GTA without pedestrians, without cars, without crashes, without missions. Instead, there is a police that attacks me when I collect too many scattered stones. Unlike in GTA, there are no chases, I’m not allowed to shoot out of the vehicle, and it’s enough to just start the engine to get rid of the police.
Therefore, our recommendation can only be: Check out some Let’s Plays of No Man’s Sky, which are currently flooding YouTube. Here you can get 50 minutes of gameplay, for example. And then make your own judgment about whether you enjoy exploring a gigantic galaxy. Because as Sean Murray said: No Man’s Sky won’t be for everyone. Others, however, celebrate it immensely.
