On July 24, the big NEXT update for the online space game No Man’s Sky was released, introducing multiplayer – just not in the GOG version.
Multiplayer part is not part of the GOG version
Multiplayer everywhere – just not in the GOG version. Those playing No Man’s Sky through Steam, on PS4, or newly on Xbox One can now see and cooperate with other players. Only those who purchased the title through the GOG platform (formerly: Good Old Games) will have to wait for this feature.
NEXT yes, multiplayer no. The GOG version also received the NEXT update. Just without the multiplayer part. The patch only offers:
- Toggle between first-person and third-person view
- Visual improvements to ships, NPCs, buildings, terrain textures, space, and more
- Build more complex bases anywhere on the planets
- It is possible to create your own fleet and send it out
Hello Games apologizes. The developers at Hello Games have apologized to customers who purchased No Man’s Sky through GOG and were looking forward to the multiplayer part.
“We expect that the multiplayer features will be released later this year. For a small independent studio, developing the feature across multiple platforms is a very ambitious and technical challenge that has led to this delay,” the team said.
GOG offers extended return policy
Players are disappointed, GOG responds. GOG customers feel treated like second-class customers by Hello Games. After all, they purchased the game just like everyone else but now have to wait longer without being given a date. The disappointment is significant.
Help is not coming from Hello Games, who have explicitly excluded refunds due to missing content, but from GOG. The company states that they are granting buyers a 30-day return policy for the game.
GOG understands that many were looking forward to the multiplayer part of No Man’s Sky and acknowledges that some do not want to wait any longer. Therefore, it is possible to return the title within 30 days of purchase. Additionally, No Man’s Sky is currently available for 29.99 euros on the platform.
