With the Foundation update, it seems Hello Games has managed to regain the trust of the No Man’s Sky players .
Before the update, according to Steam Charts, about 200 to 500 players were playing No Man’s Sky at the same time. This is not a really good number and shows that the space game was not doing well at all. However, this changed with the release of the Foundation update. Now, there are an average of between 7,700 and 8,000 players online at the same time.
The Foundation update is well received by the players
Upon the release of the update last Sunday, there were 8,090 players playing No Man’s Sky at the same time. In the last 24 hours, there were still 6,938 players. This places the game currently in the middle of the Top 100 games on Steam. However, this value is still far from what the game achieved at launch. At that time, there were over 200,000 players at launch, which then settled at 36,976 players online at the same time – before it rapidly declined.
No Man’s Sky is a good example of what can happen to a game that initially does not meet fans’ expectations but then slowly develops in a direction that players hoped for through an update months later. Whether No Man’s Sky will ever become the promised “ultimate video game” is doubtful.
Meanwhile, many players are busy building their own bases, which is now possible thanks to the Foundation update. Housing has long been an important aspect of online games, as players can let their creativity run wild and then show their creations to other players. This also applies to No Man’s Sky. Some players come up with very creative ways to make their bases as unique and interesting as possible.

Reddit user mckinneymd, for example, built a university library, while Reddit user TimmySaint created a snow fort reminiscent of Eastern Bloc countries. Steam user Greeo prefers a more practical style, Lost likes it cozier, and Reddit user neuspadrin colorful. Beyond Infinity created an architectural work with an overhanging glass extension, while PattySpivotDoe built a structure reminiscent of old sci-fi series. Sigfried11 built a base that looks like a crane, while Gerry Reyoms’ work is more minimalistic yet interesting. Readmexx built a base that resembles Star Wars.
