The space online game No Man’s Sky (PC, PS4, Xbox One) offers extremely many possibilities, which is why it is now so popular. Some players have come together to form a drug empire.
What is the Dopelord Confederacy? The organization was founded in 2018 by NMS player Gentlegrendle. Unlike other organizations in the Federation, the Dopelord Confederacy does not want to explore and colonize space, but rather make money by selling drugs.
The High in the Game
How does the organization obtain drugs? The members of the Dopelord Confederacy mine a substance called NipNip. It is a plant that grows as weed in dark places. From NipNip, GekNip can be produced. This consumable product is especially popular among the Gek people and is sold at a profit.
Those who consume GekNip essentially smoke it. In the very successful No Man’s Sky, players gather to enjoy GekNip together, which is considered a form of hashish smoking.
What do the drugs provide? There is a whole community on reddit dedicated to smoking GekNip, sharing their experiences and posting pictures taken while under the influence. Essentially, it is role-playing.
GekNip brings players together in NMS multiplayer, but has no harmful effects. Some enjoy creating clouds of smoke in a group while watching sunsets on distant planets.
However, some players go even further and take intoxicants before playing No Man’s Sky in VR. Dopelord Confederacy founder Gentlegrendle explains:
As far as the idea that NMS is perfect for altered states, I tend to agree. Few things are as satisfying as a smoke break (when traveling between planets) on colorful, peaceful worlds that you can explore in awe.

Modest Goals for the Future
How did the Dopelord Confederacy get this far? The organization is known in NMS. Initially, it did not aim to become an intergalactic lobby for drugs, but rather just to appear on the star map of the Federation.

I would honestly like to see how we can integrate our psychedelic lifestyle into the changing landscape of No Man’s Sky. As the game grows, I expect the Dopelord Confederacy will find its own niche among all the factions, clans, and gangs spread across the stars. We don’t necessarily want to grow larger, but an expansion of our presence in the universe would make us all very happy.
