No Man’s Sky, a strong and open-world space simulation, celebrates its strongest month since release of Starfield despite the game being 7 years old. What is the reason for this?
What is No Man’s Sky? The space simulation “No Man’s Sky” was released on August 9, 2016, by the development studio “Hello Games”. You take on the role of a customizable space explorer and can explore countless planets and systems with your ship.
The ship and tools are customizable. Additionally, you can build your base on a planet, purchase a freighter, and complete expeditions and missions. A strong game, that despite its criticized launch has now established itself and is close to many players.
Now one might think that since the release of Starfield, the player numbers for No Man’s Sky would have dropped, but that is not the case. Even better – the numbers have increased and the developers of Hello Games are now celebrating this.
Developers celebrate the strongest month of No Man’s Sky
On Twitter/X, the founder of the developer studio Hello Games, Sean Murray, praised No Man’s Sky. The game is already 7 years old, yet NMS has had “its biggest month in recent years”.
This refers to all platforms where the space simulation can be played – including PC, Xbox, Gamepass, Switch, PlayStation, Mac, and VR.
What could be the reason for this? Starfield has many aspects that may deter and disappoint players who have played NMS before:
- Planets can only be approached via a loading screen – so not directly
- No vehicles possible on planets – only explorable on foot
- Little variety when it comes to planets
- Planets cannot be fully explored, as invisible walls restrict you
Additionally, Starfield is only available on Xbox and PC. Other platforms like PlayStation miss out. Furthermore, it is only an offline game. You cannot explore the game with friends, as is the case in No Man’s Sky.
It is therefore very likely that many players have completed Starfield and have been looking for a space simulation that offers more freedom than Bethesda’s RPG. No Man’s Sky offers all that and much more, and thanks to the 7th anniversary, you can start the latest expedition that offers you many varied missions and free rewards.
No Man’s Sky is still a strong option despite its age if you want to play a relaxing game in between. The constantly free updates provide fresh content and replay value at regular intervals.
Have you tried No Man’s Sky? If yes, how do you compare the game to Starfield? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
