Today, June 4th, another free game went live on the Epic Games Store. Many players had been looking forward to the popular survival MMO ARK: Survival Evolved. However, they were disappointed: The party game Overcooked is now free.
For several weeks, Epic Games has been giving away high-profile games in its store that players can secure for a short time for free. So far, there have been:
- GTA 5 on May 14
- Civilization 6 on May 21
- Borderlands – The Handsome Collection on May 28
In a leak on Reddit, all these games were already revealed in advance through a screenshot and turned out to be accurate (via GameStar). Next in line should actually have been the popular survival MMO ARK: Survival Evolved. ARK is one of the best survival games of 2020.
Today, on Thursday, June 4th, there was a surprise at 5:00 PM. Instead of ARK, the party game Overcooked suddenly became available for free on the Epic Games Store.
Overcooked instead of ARK
What is Overcooked? Overcooked is a cooperative party game where up to four players work together to ensure that everything in a kitchen runs smoothly. You receive orders and must process them – while coordinating with each other effectively.
As long as you don’t make any mistakes, it runs quite well. But as soon as one person messes up, it can quickly lead to a chain reaction, and the whole kitchen starts burning – literally.
Because Overcooked features a cute comic style and relatively easy controls, it is even well-suited for children. We therefore recommend the sequel, Overcooked 2, as one of the best games for kids during the Corona crisis.
As for the publisher, Overcooked is published by Team17, who are also known for quirky games like Worms.
Is Overcooked worth it? Overcooked may not be as popular a title as ARK, but it is still a strong title. It is just a bit more niche. We at MeinMMO also recommend the sequel in our best couch coop games.
