A new hotfix in WoW Classic makes Goblin guards a bit more deadly now. The culprit is exploiters who just won’t learn.
When World of Warcraft Classic launched, there were many voices loudly calling for no changes to the game version. However, it became clear from the release that some variations would still occur. For example, players can no longer leave messages with their skeletons. Now, just before the start of Phase 2, there has been another change: The Goblin guards in neutral cities have received a significant buff.
What has changed? The Goblin guards in Gadgetzan, Booty Bay, and Everlook now have a much larger range for their ranged attacks. They can now attack players from greater distances if, for example, the players have attacked another player within their range.
Why was this changed? The reason for the change: On PvP realms, many players exploited the ability to get onto the roofs of Gadgetzan. There, the NPC guards cannot reach and therefore cannot assist attacked players. Exploiting such positions is against the Terms of Service of World of Warcraft. In order for Blizzard not to have to handle numerous tickets every day, they simply strengthened the NPC guards so that they could take care of the problematic players themselves.

However, the change will not solve all problems. There are still places and positions that the guards cannot reach. Exploiting these positions continues to be a violation of the Terms of Service and can lead to account penalties.
What else has changed? Aside from the buff for the Goblin guards, the hotfix brought some bug fixes. For instance, the “Discombobulator Ray” now ensures that affected players must dismount from their mounts. Additionally, a few CC effects in PvP have been slightly adjusted so that they can be broken by abilities like “Heroic Charge.” Basically, these are all bug fixes and no new features.
What do you think of the buffed Goblin guards? Is such a change acceptable? Or does it gradually dilute the “true” Classic feeling?
