Can you still use your old Switch 1 Joy-Cons with the Switch 2, or do you need to buy new accessories? Can you use the old Joy-Cons on the Switch 2? Yes, the Switch 2 is backwards compatible with the old Joy-Cons and Pro Controllers from the Switch 1. You don’t need to buy new hardware. Nintendo officially explains this in a blog post.
You can easily connect the old Joy-Cons and old controllers wirelessly to the Nintendo Switch 2 and also play titles with them. It is not yet clear whether you can also play new Switch 2 titles with the old Joy-Cons. With the PS5, PS4 controllers were not allowed.
What limitations are there? To charge the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons, a Nintendo Switch console or an accessory such as a Joy-Con charging grip or a Joy-Con charging station is required. You cannot charge or attach the old Joy-Cons to the Switch 2 because the Switch 2 uses a new type of connection.
