In Pokémon GO you will not only have the chance to catch a Shiny Celebi through the “GO Snapshot” feature, but also a special Pikachu with a hat. Some players report about it on Reddit – is April Fools’ behind this?
Which Pokémon is currently available? Players report that a Pikachu with an Ash hat is now jumping into the picture. So it’s no longer just Celebi that can be obtained through the “GO Snapshot” feature, but also this special Pikachu.
This Pikachu with a hat was available for a short time before. Now players who do not yet own this Pikachu have the chance to get this form.
Moreover, the first players are reporting about the shiny form of Pikachu with this hat. It is the first time it can be caught as Shiny with this hat.
Update April 1st: Pikachu has also arrived in Germany. Here, too, there is the shiny form of this event Pokémon. There seems to be a chance to catch 5 Pikachu throughout the entire day.
Additionally, not only does Pikachu jump into the picture, but also his trainer Ash. This is shown in several screenshots.

How did this come to light? A player from New Zealand reported on Reddit about this catch. Numerous other players are trying it out as well and confirmed it.
However, it is noticeable that only players who have already reached April 1st can catch a Pikachu. All others still receive Celebi.
This is what players suspect: It is suspected that Pikachu with a hat as a “photo-bomber” is related to April 1st. Niantic is known for such pranks.
Last year they changed all Pokémon icons in the game. These were poorly animated and hardly recognizable.
So it is indeed possible that they are planning something again this year. A Pikachu jumping into the picture is very plausible. However, Niantic has not commented on this yet.
That’s why this prank is worth it: The prank in the last year 2018 was rather meant to be funny, but not really sensible. However, this year 2019, there can be a benefit from the prank.
Anyone who does not yet have Pikachu with this hat can secure it and add it to their collection.
Additionally, Pikachu is also available as Shiny. Thus, you also have the chance to get a Shiny from the photo feature for the first time.
Can I also do this? In Germany, it is still not possible. If it is indeed an April Fools’ prank, it should be possible here by midnight. If German players report on finding Pikachu beforehand, we will update the article.
So far, it is said that you can receive 5 Pikachu per day. Whether this will only be limited to April 1st remains to be seen.
