More and more developers are expressing their interest in the tech trend “NFT” and are incorporating their own tokens into their games. Recently, Ubisoft did this with Ghost Recon Breakpoint. But what is your opinion on the trend? Tell us.
What NFTs are: The acronym stands for “Non-fungible Tokens”, meaning a non-replaceable digitally protected object. It is based on blockchain technology, which is also used by cryptocurrencies. Due to the way data is stored in blockchains, ownership rights to an NFT can be unequivocally proven.
Accordingly, NFTs are used, for example, in the digital art market, but are slowly finding their way into the gaming industry.
Advantages of NFTs:
- Items in games are no longer rented; instead, players purchase the ownership rights to them
- The purchased NFTs can be resold to others
- The purchased NFTs can increase in value and become a source of income
Disadvantages of NFTs:
- High energy consumption, which is harmful to the environment
- Frequent cases of fraud such as in the case of the NFT apes
- NFTs purchased for a lot of money can lose significant value and become a loss for the buyer
