Digital collectibles or “NFTs” are highly controversial among gamers. Because one can invest a lot of money here. A user has now lost a lot of money with NFTs because he made a mistake.
A user experienced a terrible mishap. The person only wanted to sell his digital NFT collection. This collection was worth over 1 million US dollars at that time. But instead of making millions with it, he only received a few cents. MeinMMO explains what went wrong.
NFTs are highly controversial among gamers: Many hope to make money with them, while others suspect it’s just a massive bubble that will burst soon. Nevertheless, there are also positive views on why NFTs can be a good thing.
A digital stone collection is sold for a few cents, although it is worth millions
What exactly happened? A person wanted to sell his digital stone collection. This stone collection “Etherrock” is worth over 1 million US dollars.
He offered it on a digital marketplace. But here the big mistake happened: Instead of selling his NFT collection for 444 Ethereum (ETH), he offered the collection for 444 Wei. The cryptocurrency Wei is worth significantly less than Ethereum.
Why is this a big mistake? 1 ETH is equivalent to about the value of 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 Wei. The user sold his NFT for a fraction of its value.
No wonder that the despair of the seller is now accordingly great and he would like to reverse his mistake. Because before he could change his mistake or cancel the offer, a bot had already bought his offer.
He himself writes on Twitter: “With one click, my entire net worth of about 1 million dollars was gone.”
User receives much mockery and scorn for his digital stone collection
How do other users react? Several users react with a lot of mockery and scorn to the cries for help from the user who sold his fortune for a few cents.
- “If your entire fortune consists of pictures of stones, what can I say, do something meaningful with your money.”
- “Please remove the rock from your profile picture, it’s illegal if you no longer own it.”
- A third user writes: “Your entire fortune was in a stone? The bot probably did you a favor, to be honest.”
Some also wish him all the best and that he should not worry too much about it. After all, he only lost a digital stone collection. The NFT seller seems to have at least not completely lost his sense of humor. Meanwhile, he has a new profile picture on Twitter and renamed himself “Rock Dust.” This is presumably a play on the fact that his valuable stones have turned to dust.
By the way, this is not the first stone that has caused a stir on the Internet. A user once found a unique stone that he presented to the gaming community. Because this stone looks extremely similar to a controller:
