From May 23 to May 30, it was relatively quiet in the MMORPGs. However, June kicks off with two major expansions. Additionally, we have summarized all the important news of the week for you.
This is happening next week:
- On June 1, the new expansion Blackwood for The Elder Scrolls Online will be released.
- On June 2, WoW Classic will get its first expansion Burning Crusade.
Additionally, from June 1 to June 8, the second beta of Swords of Legends Online will take place.
Highlights of the week:
- Ashes of Creation showcased fortress battles in a new livestream. While the fights are still quite clumsy, the battle itself received much praise from the community.
- Pioner is set to release at the end of 2021 / early 2022 and is a new survival game that aims to be an MMORPG.
The talk of the week: Dreamworld is set to become a new MMO where thousands of players can interact with each other and the environment, unleashing their creativity. According to the developers, it is supposed to be the “last game you will play”. However, the Kickstarter campaign turned into a huge fiasco.
The discussion of the week: We at MeinMMO wanted to learn more about the age structure of our WoW community. It turns out that: WoW: Retail players are actually quite old – but the Classic players are as well.
Updates on Patch 9.1 and ESO Blackwood
This week in the major MMORPGs:
- WoW is changing a dungeon achievement in Patch 9.1, and the players hate it. Furthermore, there was the sad news that one of the most important addon authors has passed away.
- The head of Final Fantasy XIV revealed that Endwalker will have 30% more story content than the previous expansion.
- In Guild Wars 2, an interesting event for returners and newcomers started.
- In Black Desert, there was a small update on May 26 with new events and balance adjustments (via BDO). Moreover, a new open-world dungeon will be released in June.

- Tibia Online brings a legendary boss into the game that can only be fought twice a year.
- A Tale in the Desert – an MMORPG without the option to fight – has conducted a complete server wipe and started year 10 (via Desert nomad).
- The classic servers of Aion, which launched in Korea in 2020, will likely come to us in 2021 (via Twitter).
- Dungeons & Dragons Online brought back the Crystal Cove event (via Twitter). It runs until June 13 and allows you to fight pirates and exciting instances where you can find XP and good loot.
This is what happened in the MMORPGs in development:
- Swords of Legends Online has introduced its housing. Additionally, there were some discussions around the game, which had its first beta phase last week.
- The head of Ashes of Creation revealed why his MMORPG is so great.
- The developers of Bless Unleashed have published a Q&A with community questions (via Steam).
- The developers of New World revealed new details about the cash shop. There will be no boosts or other “Quality of Life” items for at least 4 months.
