Unlike Janthir Wilds, the next expansion of Guild Wars 2 will not be released in August. MeinMMO summarizes what the developers at ArenaNet are planning instead.
What does the new plan look like? In the official Guild Wars 2 forum, Game Director Josh Davis explains that they want to take more time for the new expansion of the MMORPG. Therefore, it will be released in October 2025. Specifically, Davis states:
I want to give you an update regarding the release timing of our next expansion for Guild Wars 2. While we released our last two expansions in August, we have decided to postpone the release of the next expansion to October. This additional time will allow us to ensure that the expansion meets our quality standards without leading to crunch.
This change for the sixth expansion will not affect the release timing of the last quarterly update for Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds.
We thank you for your patience and support as we take the necessary time to bring the next chapter of Guild Wars 2 to life. We will provide more information about our next expansion this summer, and in the meantime, we will release more content and events to continue the adventure, including the last quarterly release for Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds. How is the community reacting to the delay? The announcement is not well received by parts of the community. A major criticism from various players: Already now, they have been waiting for months for story content that can be completed in two to three hours. Now they are expected to wait even longer for this?

What is planned for the next few months? Although the latest content update Reue was just released on March 11, 2025, several other content packages are planned for March, April, and May. Here is the current roadmap for Guild Wars 2:
