The latest cinematic in World of Warcraft is known. It leads to the decisive battle between two well-known elves.
While we are still waiting for the Patch 9.1 Chains of Domination in WoW, the update is already live in America and players are experiencing the new story. Early on, there is a pretty hefty 3-minute cinematic featuring a very significant battle between two characters. Find out here how the important fight turns out.
Spoiler Alert: The cinematic contains major spoilers for the story of Patch 9.1. If you prefer to experience it yourself, you should not read further.
When does the cinematic take place? During the course of the new main campaign, the Jailer launches an attack on the various realms of the Shadowlands – including Ardenweald. The forces of the Maw invade the lands of the Night Fae to steal the Winter Queen’s seal and thus gather another key fragment for the Jailer.
What is shown? The cinematic depicts the confrontation between Sylvanas Windrunner and Tyrande Whisperwind. While Sylvanas summons more forces from the Maw, one of the great giants of the Maw is suddenly taken down – by Tyrande Whisperwind.
After a brief dialogue, the two elves begin their battle.
Tyrande unleashes the power of Elune and is able to hold her ground against Sylvanas. Even when Sylvanas uses her chains, Tyrande can easily break free as she utilizes the power of the Moon Goddess.
It appears that the fight was merely a distraction, as the Maw’s troops break through the lines of Ardenweald, and Sylvanas attempts to flee. However, Tyrande follows and rips Sylvanas from her banshee form to engage her in close combat shortly thereafter. She is on the verge of defeating the Banshee Queen – but gradually, the power of Elune begins to wane.
Sylvanas mocks that Elune once again denies her priestess of victory and gets back up. Tyrande grows weaker and weaker and is threatened to be killed by Sylvanas. At the last moment, Ysera intervenes and saves the Moon Priestess from death. Sylvanas bids farewell with the words (translated):
“Bathe in the glow of the fading embers of the pact with your goddess, Tyrande. Nothing is eternal.”
Tyrande is left broken. Ysera tries to speak to her – but the night warrior no longer responds.
Thus, the cinematic comes to an end.
Sylvanas knew nothing of Nathanos’ death: Particularly interesting is a small detail. Apparently, Sylvanas did not know that Tyrande had killed Nathanos on Azeroth. Nathanos had previously proclaimed that his death would “send him directly to her” – but that seems not to be the case. It appears that the Jailer has retained Nathanos’ soul and has completely different plans – possibly as leverage against Sylvanas.
How the story continues, we will learn in the upcoming chapters of the story and the raid “Sanctum of Domination”. However, it will not open its doors until next week.
