New World: This is why territory points are important and how to distribute them correctly

New World: This is why territory points are important and how to distribute them correctly

In New World, there are numerous areas contested by factions. However, even if you have nothing to do with company wars and PvP, the individual territories bring many good advantages that you should definitely enjoy. We at MeinMMO show you in this article what you need to know about faction reputation and what should be prioritized.

Why should you increase the faction reputation? On the one hand, with each level-up in an area, you can choose between 3 buffs that last permanently as long as you stay in that territory. On the other hand, you earn a lot of experience points for your character to level up.

What options are there? Almost all activities in the desired area earn you reputation points. This gives you many options on how you want to gather your reputation, and you don’t have to do the same activity day after day. You can:

  • Defeat monsters
  • Complete side missions on-site
  • Submit city projects at the town hall board
  • Complete faction missions
  • Clean corruption portals marked in red on the map
  • Explore the map and uncover the “?” locations
  • Participate in invasions and wars

Which method works the fastest/best? Depending on whether you are adventuring alone or in a group, the gain of reputation points can vary significantly. We list what worked particularly well for us when playing solo or in a group and what you might prefer to do on the side.

Leveling faction reputation quickly – Here’s how

Adventuring solo:

  • City projects at the town hall board
    • Projects such as “Submit 50 flint” are your best friends when it comes to reputation points. Typically, you just need to collect and submit materials. You can even visit multiple areas and gather reputation in different territories at the same time.
  • Faction missions – PvE
    • Here, you may not earn as much reputation as with the city projects, but you gain prestige within your faction and faction coins, which you can exchange for good equipment and items. You receive even more rewards if you accept PvP missions. However, beware that if you die on your way, you lose all mission progress.

Adventuring in groups:

  • Clean corruption portals:
    • If you are in a larger group, you can clean the portals with your Azoth staff much more easily. If the group is even larger, cleaning takes less than 2 minutes. In addition to faction reputation, you also receive Azoth, equipment, and material chests as rewards.
  • Defeat monsters
    • The strong monsters in the “elite zones”, such as the Tomb Cave (Königsfels) or Lichtholz Island (Lichtholz), provide a lot of reputation when defeated. If you are in a group and take them down quickly, you will gather plenty of territory reputation.
  • Faction missions – PvP
    • These missions give you many rewards but can be frustrating at times, as you can quickly lose progress here. This is where your group comes into play, as together you are stronger, and the probability of survival increases significantly.

What you can do on the side:

  • Side missions
    • In New World, the side missions are mostly tedious. For many, you first have to push some miles, and the rewards aren’t really top-notch. So accept every mission and see which ones you can take with you along the way.
  • Uncover “?” locations
    • Here, you also gain some experience and reputation, but not much. Accordingly, you only discover such locations on the side while running from A to B and if the unknown spot happens to be nearby.
  • Invasions and wars
    • Since these only occur every few days, you can also gain a small bonus here.

Prioritize your territory bonuses carefully

What advantages exist at all? Currently, there are 10 different buffs you can choose from. According to achievements, faction reputation can rise up to 300, giving you 299 points to distribute.

Now one might think: “Oh, since I will get so many points eventually, I will just distribute them at will.” Wrong!

There are several buffs that are not as effective in the long run as others. We will show you which exist and how good they are.

  1. Warehouse expansion
    • Absolutely necessary. Unlike other buffs, there is no diminishing return the more often this buff is chosen. This allows you to gain up to 1600 storage space.
  2. Faster gathering
    • Good buff, but not as good as initially assumed. As you progress in the game, you obtain better tools that completely overshadow this buff. Additionally, you need to check if you will still collect materials in this area later in the game. Rare resources are more prevalent in higher areas.
  3. Faction reputation bonus
    • You receive a bonus on all reputation points. Better at the start but worse towards the end. You can also sink some points here but not all of them.
  4. Trade tax reduction
    • A very important buff that you definitely want to choose if you trade a lot in the area. However, there are only a few “core areas” where this advantage is useful. In some regions, hardly any trading takes place.
  5. Station fee – reducing crafting costs
    • If you plan to craft a lot in the respective area, this buff can save you a lot of gold. Focus on an area where you primarily practice your profession so you can specialize in other areas.
  6. Faction tokens
    • A buff that appeals to only a few. Faction tokens are used for purchasing equipment or bags at the beginning of the game, but as the server ages, they become less common. If you frequently complete faction missions, invest more points here.
  7. More items in housing
    • You can place some items in your home that provide global benefits, such as 20% faster fishing. However, you generally only take this buff if you are into housing and want to flex with your decorations.
  8. Reduce property tax
    • If your company does not own the territory, you can use this advantage. Otherwise, you have to pay taxes weekly, which can quickly become very expensive. If you own multiple plots in the settlement, you should consider this.
  9. More experience points
    • This card is a trap. You receive this card quite rarely and its scaling is very weak. Additionally, this card becomes useless once you reach level 60. Invest 1 point right away at the beginning and prioritize the buffs mentioned above.
  10. Property ownership enabled
    • This card always comes with faction reputation 10 and you cannot skip it.

How do you effectively distribute points? There is no perfect plan. Depending on the area and your specialization, you can distribute points on the buffs that benefit you the most. Additionally, you need to ensure that you do not invest everything in one buff, as the principle of diminishing returns applies here. The more you prioritize an advantage, the less it pays off. We will show some popular prioritizations that might interest you.
